Circular and social economy

Promotion of Circular and Social Economy

In recent years, it has been observed that the current development model based on a linear economy and the culture of disposal, “extract, produce, use, and throw away” has significantly impacted climate change, increased pollution, biodiversity and native forest degradation, soil erosion, and water scarcity. These are global-scale problems that require local solutions. In this context, a new paradigm of production and consumption based on the Circular Economy has emerged.

At Citromax, we echo this situation and envision new lines of work in the territory based on strategic partnerships. Therefore, we collaborate with government organizations and promote the circular and social economy through the revaluation and reuse of discarded materials generated throughout the production process (pallets, transmission chains, bearings, etc.). These materials are used to create eco-designed objects that employ the local community and can later be marketed by cooperatives. Thus, we aim to create triple impact actions in the economy, society, and environment, promoting more sustainable communities.

As a result of the collaboration agreement signed with the Provincial Institute of Cooperative and Mutual Action (IPACyM) in late 2022, we are already seeing the first results. Citromax’s Environmental and Sustainability department is outsourcing merchandising items to local cooperatives, enabling not only the implementation of a circular economy but also the economic, social, and professional development of individuals in our area of influence.

Through these programs, we seek to raise awareness of triple impact with more actions, promoting more sustainable communities. Therefore, we contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 8, 11, 12, and 17.
